Thermopsis lanceolate herb

Thermopsis lanceolate herb is a plant from the legume family, most often it is found in Mongolia, Siberia, Central Asia, China. Since thermopsis reproduces by roots, it forms dense thickets, whole shrubs.
The ideal place for him is on rocky slopes, on deposits, in river valleys.
Saline lands are an ideal soil for drunken grass (this is how thermopsis of lanceolate grass is often called among the people), but with a change in habitat, the medicinal value of the plant also decreases, for example, in Mongolia, thermopsis is grown as a forage grass.

The use of thermopsis lanceolate in medicine

The following substances were isolated from the herb of this plant:

  • thermopsin (irritates the vomiting center, has an expectorant effect);
  • cytisine (stimulates respiration);
  • pachikarpin;
  • ascorbic acid;
  • methylcytisine (stimulates respiration);
  • resin;
  • tannins;
  • saponins.

Such a composition makes the herb thermopsis poisonous, but it is used in pharmacology as an expectorant, in resuscitation practice - to stimulate respiration.
In folk medicine, this plant is used to treat colds, get rid of worms, as an anesthetic.

Side effects of thermopsis

It should always be remembered that thermopsis is a poisonous plant, so some precautions must be taken, namely, do not exceed the dose! In addition, the use of thermopsis very often causes allergic reactions, which are manifested by a rash, swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membranes.
Therefore, thermopsis can only be taken as prescribed by a doctor!
