Figuring out when to plant tulips

When to plant tulips? The answer to this question is sought by all novice gardeners who have decided to acquire, perhaps, the most beautiful of all spring flowers. So, let's try to figure out how and when to plant tulips.

The traditional planting time for these flowers is mid-autumn. The end of September - the beginning of October is the most favorable time due to the fact that the bulb needs to root before the onset of frost, and the rooting process takes about two to three weeks. In warmer regions, where winter frosts come later and winters are milder, planting can be postponed until the end of October. It should be noted that it is advisable to plant early varieties a week earlier. For further cultivation, exceptionally healthy bulbs are suitable, which should be heavy and strong (all suspicious specimens with a soft structure and signs of rot should be discarded immediately). It is advisable to carry out a preventive measure by treating the bulbs with a strong solution of potassium permanganate or foundation (2 percent) for half an hour and drying them thoroughly.

Before planting, not only planting material needs to be processed, but also the soil, which should be enriched with organic and mineral substances. It is best to add to it a special mixture for bulbous, sold in flower shops. It is also important to correctly position the bulbs themselves: remember that the planting depth is equal to three bulb heights, and the distance is equal to two diameters. In severe frosts, tulips, despite their frost resistance, need mulching.

The tulips should be dug up in the month of July. It is good to dry at a pace, but we ventilate the room well and only in August plant it in the ground. Watering is not worth it, they must take root themselves.

We planted tulips only once, now every year they delight us with their flowering and grow, but unfortunately very slowly. How to make tulips fill the entire flower bed as soon as possible?
