Pruning apple trees in spring

Spring is not only the time of the sun, holidays, but also the beginning of the vegetable and garden season for many of us. In the spring, there are a lot of worries in the garden, and all are important and necessary in order to enjoy the rich harvest and blooming plants afterwards.

One of the most important steps is pruning the apple trees in the spring. Of course, apple trees can be pruned in the fall, but it is still preferable to carry out this procedure in the spring.

For apple trees, such pruning is necessary for rejuvenation, for better growth and fruiting. In addition, regular pruning helps to get rid of some pests and is needed to give tree crowns a beautiful and neat shape.

Since apple trees are light-loving trees, crown thinning is only good for them. With the help of it, uniform illumination of the entire crown with the sun and free air penetration to the branches are achieved.

Pruning apple trees in spring is more optimal because, after the winter months, you can freely find old, frozen branches on the trees, which are subject to removal.

Young trees are pruned as soon as they are permanently planted. At the same time, the upper part of the apple tree trunk is cut so that several dormant buds remain below the cut.

In two-year-olds, it is recommended to cut the branches by about 1/3, leaving the buds on the outside of the crown, and not inside.

From about five years old, the apple tree can already produce a crop. Therefore, from this age you need to be especially careful with the branches of the last year when pruning. After all, it is on last year's branches of the apple tree that the fruits are tied.
