Growing cedar from seeds on your site

Growing cedar from seeds is not difficult, but you have to spend a little time. To begin with, cedars are evergreen tall trees with a wide decorative spreading crown. Their needles are acicular, prickly, collected in bunches, from blue-green to silver. Flowers are at the top of the shoots, cedar seeds are in the cones.

If you study the care of a cedar, then it consists in providing the necessary conditions. So, the tree prefers fertile well-drained soils containing sand, decayed leaves, and peat. The tree is wind-resistant and frost-resistant. Needs enough moisture. If the soil contains lime, the cedar seedling will not take root.

Siberian cedar is propagated by seeds - pine nuts. Seeds are preliminarily stratified 90 days before sowing. They are planted in the soil at the end of April, but you can also at the beginning of May. Without preparation, the seeds will sprout only next spring. They can be sown without preparation, but only before the onset of the first frost. So that the crops do not freeze, it is necessary to cover them with leaves.

In the first year of life, a sprouted seedling needs to be watered abundantly, but not poured. Cedar, which has many details, can be protected from the scorching sun by planting it in the shade of deciduous trees.

Caring for the cedar in subsequent years will be reduced to weeding and mulching the near-trunk circle with organic matter: cut grass and needles from a pine or cedar forest. No fertilizers. The mulch will provide the necessary nutrition and retain the moisture that the young tree needs.

By the way, the benefit of pine nuts is that it promotes the production of breast milk. Therefore, it must be included in the menu of a nursing mother. But the beneficial properties of pine nuts do not end there, as they improve the condition of the blood and the activity of the nervous system.
