Finger cucumber: variety features, cultivation and care

The Palchik variety was included in the register in 2001 in the Central, Central Black Earth and Lower Volga regions. Cucumbers of this variety are early maturing, multiply and pollinate by bees. A big plus is long fruiting, which lasts 2 months. The plant tolerates downy mildew well, although for many other greens the disease is deadly.

Features of the Finger variety

How does this variety differ from many others? Cucumbers grow plastic, the yield of marketable products reaches 95% (it is profitable to grow both for oneself and for sale), long-term fruiting, very high taste qualities of both fresh and canned and salted fruits.

After the first shoots have appeared above the ground, Finger will ripen in 40-45 days.

Cucumber is vigorous, climbing, medium-branched. The color of the fruit is dark green, the tubercles are sparse and not prickly, the taste does not give off a bitterness. The maximum fruit size is 12 cm and the weight is 130 grams. It is important to harvest on time so that the finger does not outgrow and does not lose its properties.

Cucumber Finger loves light air and permeable soil. The option of planting through seedlings and sowing directly into the soil is possible.

To get seedlings of cucumbers, seeds are planted to a depth of no more than 2 centimeters.

As soon as the weather has stabilized and there is no threat of a cold snap, you can safely transplant seedlings into the ground... If planting is carried out by seeds, then you need to wait for stable weather and a soil temperature of at least 15 ° C.

A good harvest can also be obtained when grown in unheated greenhouses. I plant 20-day seedlings in mid-late May. You can add leaves or sawdust to the soil, it must be fertile.

How to properly care for cucumbers

Cucumber care

To get the maximum amount of delicious cucumbers, it is important to correctly and drop them off in time... Planting can be carried out both in open ground and in greenhouses. Cucumbers, including the Finger variety, love warmth, plenty of fresh air and moisture. The best conditions for cucumbers are greenhouses.

You can make a greenhouse yourself. To do this, pull the rope over the entire area of the planted seeds or seedlings and hang a covering material (non-woven) on it.

Cucumber care:

  • Despite the fact that cucumbers love moisture, they should not be poured. They will be easier to tolerate drought than an excess of water. If water stagnation forms, then there is a high probability of the plant being damaged by a fungus.
  • An adult plant should be watered with warm water. It is not about electrically heated water, but about reaching the ambient temperature with water. In advance, you need to leave containers with water for irrigation outside, and not use cold tap water. Otherwise, you can get a reset of the ovaries.
  • It is better to water in the evening, if the weather is cloudy - you can also in the morning. This is required to keep the leaves firm and fresh. The taste of the fruit, including the absence of bitterness, also depends on these rules.
  • If you plant cucumbers, then you can count on an earlier harvest and more juicy fruits... Vaccination for laginaria is popular.

Basic requirements for an excellent harvest:

  • The night temperature is not lower than 15 degrees.
  • Open area for beds without shade barriers.
  • Loose soil with applied fertilizer.
  • Planting seedlings in the ground and watering is better in the evening.
  • After transplanting, intensive watering begins after 4 days.
  • You can feed the plants after they have completely taken root.

How to plant seeds for seedlings correctly

Seedling seeds

Cucumber variety Finger is planted in the same way as other varieties:

  • Seeds should be placed with their spout up, at an angle of no more than 45 degrees. Thus, from the spout, the root will bend and grow downward. As soon as a sprout appears, it will split the seed and will be able to develop further without any obstacles.
  • The split seed will catch on the ground and remain in it. If you initially lower the nose down, then the seed will interfere with the full growth of the plant and can come out of the ground along with the greenery. It turns out that the sprout will spend additional energy to fight the peel.
  • The seeds should not be buried too deep, a thin layer of soil of 1 cm will be enough.

If the seed is deep, then the moment of germination may be delayed, since the greens will not come out of the ground until the lateral roots have formed.

  • To create favorable conditions for the germination of seeds for seedlings, cover the ground with an ordinary newspaper, with a layer of several sheets. The newspaper needs to be sprayed periodically to keep it moist and allow oxygen to flow to the seeds. Without the right amount of air and moisture, the plant can die.
  • Further, the container with the planted seeds must be placed in a room where the air temperature reaches 25 degrees. After the first shoots have appeared, the newspaper is removed. During this period, it is necessary to abandon watering the seedlings, since they now have enough moisture.

Cucumbers are subtropical plants, so they can be transplanted into open ground only after the onset of stable warm weather. They can be transplanted to a permanent place when the soil warms up to 15-20 degrees.

Planting seedlings in open ground

Landing in open ground

As soon as the weather is warm and all the frosts are behind, you can start transplanting seedlings into open ground.

The best period for this is the end of May. However, nights can be chilly and therefore additional protection for young cucumbers should not be neglected.

For starters, you can cover the plants with plastic wrap. As soon as the night temperature has settled and has ceased to threaten with frost, the secondary shelter can be removed and cucumbers can be grown on a trellis.

Cucumber care is not complicated, the main requirements are:

  • Regular watering with warm water
  • Formation of plants
  • Soil loosening
  • Weed removal
  • The distance between the bushes is about 30 cm, and between the rows about 60 cm.
  • The most intensive watering is provided in hot weather, as well as during flowering and fruit setting.
  • Before planting, a little manure or compost can be added to the prepared trenches, which are sprinkled with another layer of earth. After the seedlings are placed in the hole, they should be carefully sprinkled with earth and pressed with your hands.
  • To prevent moisture from evaporating so quickly on a hot day, the roots of the cucumber can be mulched with dry grass or straw.
  • As soon as the cucumber grows up, it is tied to a trellis, along which seedlings will curl.

There are no difficulties in planting cucumbers of the Finger variety. However, in order to get a rich tasty harvest, you must observe certain rules of care.
