Phalaenopsis care

Phalaenopsis care

Although orchids are delicate and demanding flowers, caring for phalaenopsis at home is quite simple:

  • In the cold season, fanenopsis does not need greenhouses. They can grow quietly on the west and east windows. Suitable temperatures are from +15 in winter to +30 in summer.
  • If cloudy weather lasts for a long time, or this is a climatic feature of the region, then the flower needs to be provided with lighting.
  • You can not put the orchid pot in open sunlight., the light should be bright, but diffused. You can put the plant not on the windowsill, but in another part of the room.If there is little light or the temperature goes beyond the lower limit of the norm, then this is fraught with the fall of the buds.
  • In the fall, phalaenopis is kept at a temperature of 16 degrees for a couple of months. This is necessary for the flower buds to form.
  • An important condition for maintaining the life of phalaenopsis is high air humidity. To ensure this condition, it is necessary to spray the leaves themselves and the air around the orchid.
  • It is important that the water that gets on the leaves does not accumulate and does not drain into the leaf outlet. This can lead to their decay. Also, water should not fall on the flower petals.
  • If the air humidity is insufficient, it will contribute to the attack of parasites and diseases. Most often, orchids are affected by scabies.
  • Orchid bloom is possible only at high humidity, up to 80%. Another way to maintain moisture at all times is to put wet gravel in the plant pan.

Watering a flower

The orchid is watered all year round, with moderate watering. The soil should not dry out, but it does not need to be constantly wet. From time to time, it is necessary for the roots to dry out a little so that oxygen can pass to them. If the soil is constantly wet, fungus may appear. Watering also needs to be done carefully so that water does not accumulate at the growing point, otherwise it can rot.

Instead of regular watering, you can dip the phalaenopsis pot half the height in a bucket of water. The soil will be saturated with water in the right amount.

The orchid responds well to feeding. Fertilizer is applied 2 times a month in summer, and in winter a little less often and in lower concentration.

To the orchid gave a lot of healthy buds, Magnesium sulfate is added once a month. For orchids, a special soil is required; in an ordinary flower, it will not grow. The soil must contain the required amount of mineral and organic substances, the soil must be air permeable.

You can prepare the substrate yourself using an equal ratio of the following elements:

  • Pine bark
  • Charcoal
  • Sand
  • Sphagnum

A plastic pot is selected, there are special pots for orchids on sale. It should have a large number of drainage holes. In order for the orchid to bloom better, you need to cut off the panicles that have already faded. After 3 months, a new panicle will form in this place, which will bloom in the future.

Once every two years, phalaenopsis is transplanted into a larger pot. You need to be careful not to break the integrity of the roots. Phalaenopsis orchid is well adapted for growing at home. In order for a flower to bloom, it needs to provide special conditions.

Most importantly, don't buy blue phalaenopsis. Yes, they are beautiful, but, unfortunately, they are specially painted, so they quickly die.
