Cucumber Zyatek: description

 description

Cucumber Zyatek is an early ripening variety. From germination to first fruits, it takes 45 days. This is a parthenocarpic hybrid. It does not need bees to bear fruit.

Variety characteristic:

  • Zelenets 10-15 cm long, up to 3.5 cm wide.Weight about 100 g.
  • The skin is without bitterness, covered with a large number of small tubercles and delicate thorns.
  • The cucumber itself is dark green, light stripes run along the entire length.
  • In the bosom of each leaf, from 2 to 8 cucumbers are formed. They can be plucked in a gherkin or pickle state, and can be grown to their maximum size when consumed fresh.
  • The fruits of the Zyatek cucumber, like all hybrids, are not bitter.

Cucumber Zyatek is grown in a greenhouse and open field. It forms a powerful root system, strong stem. Fruits until the end of September in any weather. After all, insects are not needed for pollination.

Cucumber Zyatek is a variety of universal use.

Used fresh, for making salads, salted and pickled. From one bush per season, 5 to 7 kg of fruits are removed. The hybrid is quite resistant to real and false powdery mildew, is not affected by root rot. It does not require special care. You can not use for sowing seeds collected from last year's cucumber variety Zyatek. After all, this is a hybrid, and they do not transmit parental properties by seeds.

Sowing seeds for seedlings

Sowing seeds for seedlings

Having bought Zyatek cucumber seeds in the store, you need to carefully read the instructions for sowing and growing plants. Usually it is presented in the form of symbols indicating the periods of sowing, planting, harvesting. Seeds are sown for seedlings at the end of April. When the seedlings sprout, and they have 3-4 real leaves, the seedlings are planted in open ground or a greenhouse.

It should be borne in mind that cucumbers with an open root system are very poorly tolerated. transplant... Therefore, they need to be sown in special pots, cups or peat tablets... And then, after the threat of spring return frosts disappears and the temperature drops below 12 degrees, they are planted in open ground.

When grown in a greenhouse, seeds are sown in mid-May.

The distance between plants and rows is 50 cm. It cannot be reduced, because cucumbers of this variety require a lot of light for normal development and fruiting. If you plant them densely, neighboring bushes will block each other from the sun's rays. 4 cucumber bushes grow on a square meter of land.

Cucumber Zyatek is a very thermophilic plant. You need to sow seeds at a temperature of at least 12 degrees. When sown in cold soil, they rot. The optimum temperature is from 15 to 18 degrees. In such conditions, the time from sowing to germination is about 10 days. And if the temperature rises from 25 to 29 degrees, 3-5 days are enough.

If the air temperature drops to 15 degrees and below, the number of flowers and ovaries decreases significantly. They do not like cucumbers and heat.An increase in temperature to 30 degrees and above leads to drying of the stem, deterioration of the quality of the fruit. They grow and develop best at temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees.

Planting soil cucumbers should be light and rich in nutrients.

Rules crop rotation:

  • The predecessors are legumes, onion, pepper, root vegetables.
  • Shouldn't grow nearby potato and other nightshades.
  • Good neighbors are peas cabbage.
  • Cucumbers are not grown for several years in one place or after zucchini, pumpkin, melons.

Growing on ridges

Growing on ridges

Growing on a high ridge gives a good result. For this, the soil is being prepared in the fall:

  • They loosen the soil in a 70 cm wide area. They dig a 30 cm deep trench in the middle. Lay a layer of straw, sawdust, peat, grass cuttings, fallen leaves in it.
  • In the spring, add manure from above, spill the entire contents with hot water with the addition of potassium permanganate.
  • Add humus wood ash, mineral fertilizerscontaining potassium and phosphorus. If the soil is acidic, add lime.
  • Once again, spill with a hot solution of potassium permanganate, which kills pathogens, cover with a film. It will help raise the temperature of the soil inside the garden.

A ridge is formed with a height of 20 cm, a width of 70 cm. A roll of soil is poured on the windward side. Sow seeds or plant seedlings... Plants spudwhen he has 2-3 knees. This will facilitate the distillation of additional lining from the filled up internodes. Repeat the operation before flowering. You can pinch young plants in the phase of 5 true leaves. This will also contribute to tillering. But they do this only if there are very few plants in the row for any reason.

The beds are watered as needed, preferably in the early morning.

You can pour clean water from a watering can onto the leaves. But it shouldn't be cold. After the water has been absorbed, the soil is loosened. When the lashes grow to the middle of the row spacings, they stop loosening. The whips are laid so that it is convenient to harvest. Permanently removed weeds.

Cucumber lashes do not like very much when they are turned, they step with their feet during harvesting, they are carried from place to place. They can dry out.

Cucumber care Zyatek

Cucumber care Zyatek

Zyatek cucumbers are also demanding for soil moisture. It needs to be watered constantly. But the plant does not need extra moisture either. The roots from excess moisture can fester, which is why the plant will disappear.

It is recommended to grow Zyatek cucumbers on a trellis. It can be built in various ways. You can install poles near each bush. The stems of young plants must first be directed towards them. Then the plant itself will cling to the antennae (modified leaves) to the support. Between the poles, you can stretch the ropes that form a trellis. Growing cucumbers on a trellis:

  • Saves space.
  • Prevents branches from intertwining.
  • Provides optimal illumination for most fruits.
  • Improves conditions for watering and harvesting.

The quantity and quality of the stems must be regulated. If the shoot has reached a length of half a meter, but flowers and ovaries have not appeared on it, they pinch it. It must be remembered that the cucumber Zyatek is a hybrid, and they do not have barren flowers, a cucumber should form in place of each flower.

In order to get a high yield of high quality cucumbers, you need to constantly feed the plants.

Especially at a time when they are growing intensively. Phosphorus and potassium are added. It can be both mineral fertilizers and organic matter. The cucumber needs carbon dioxide during the period of flower formation. Its formation is facilitated by the introduction organics... Some sources even recommend stacking between rows mullein... But he should not touch the stems of the plant. This is not easy to achieve. After all, the whips are constantly growing. Therefore, it is better to water it with mullein infusion. Before this, 1 kg of manure is insisted in a bucket of water for 10 days. Then they are diluted at the rate of 1 liter per 10 liters of water and the plants are watered no more than once a week.

Diseases of the cucumber Zyatek

Cucumber diseases Zyatek

Despite the fact that the Zyatek cucumber variety is resistant to major diseases, the plant can be affected by them. This often happens due to non-compliance with growing conditions:

  • Infection with gray rot is manifested by the fact that the whips and leaves become slippery. They treat this disease by wiping them with grass or an aqueous solution of chalk with the addition of potassium permanganate. You need to process the entire ground part of the bush.
  • Sometimes the cucumber Zyatek is affected by fungal diseases. Most often this happens when there is an excess of moisture in the soil and air and high temperatures. The manifestation of such diseases can be yellow, later brown spots on the leaves. Cucumbers may have watery spots. To combat this disease, damaged plants or parts of them are removed. Control the humidity of the air. If the affected Zyatek cucumbers grow in the greenhouse, then the periods of airing need to be increased.
  • When the temperature drops sharply in summer with high humidity, plants can get sick with downy mildew. A gray bloom appears on the leaves and other parts of the plant. They are covered with spots of various configurations. To combat the disease, chemical remedies are used or the bushes are sprayed with whey.

Vegetable pests

Vegetable pests and the fight against them

When sowing cucumber seeds, you need to worry about their safety. Their stems will be eaten with pleasure by the larvae of May beetles or bear... In order to save seedlings from them, when planting, Rembeck is added to each well.

When the cucumber grows up, the juice of young shoots and leaves during the flowering period is not averse to feasting on aphid.

Its appearance will be reported by ants, which begin to crawl as a plant. They come to "milk" aphids and are interested in its active reproduction. Therefore, you need to deal with aphids and ants at the same time. It is not recommended to use chemical preparations, because the ripening period of cucumbers is less than the waiting period after treatment with such preparations. Therefore, it is better to use the biological preparation Fitoverm. If you managed to notice the aphid before its widespread, you can limit yourself to the destruction of the affected leaves.

You can use folk remedies:

  • Infusion of garlic.
  • Laundry soap or soda solution.
  • Infusion of tobacco, onion peel.
  • Infusions of wormwood, mint, rosemary.
  • Protect against aphids planted nearby marigold, garlic, onion, cucumber herb.

In late summer, cucumbers can be damaged by spider mites. It can be seen by the presence of cobwebs on the leaves. And they themselves seem to have been punctured by a sharp needle. The holes are especially visible in the light. First, the damaged leaves are removed, then they are treated with Fitoverm or Bitoxibacillin (10 g per 1 L of water). Success in the fight against spider mites largely depends on the timely detection of the pest.

Fighting slugs, which can also damage cucumbers, is easier than dealing with spider mites. Usually it is enough to add sawdust in the aisles to make them disappear. Pests and diseases are more likely to appear where weeds grow. Therefore, you need to remove them in time. Trichogramma and birds that need to be attracted to the garden will help fight pests.

We have grown this variety of hybrid cucumbers. They grow abundantly, but the length of the fruit does not exceed 10 cm. If you overexpose a cucumber on a vine, then it does not grow in length, but increases in diameter. Garlic does not help much against aphids, therefore, it is better to use chemicals. For many diseases, we sprayed cucumbers with the ecological remedy Fitosporin.

Great cucumber! Does not require pollination, very tasty and early maturing. I advise everyone.

Good grade, I'll take a note. Just what you need for balconies and window sills - self-pollinating, early, unpretentious. This year I planted the Balcony Miracle, something did not please me very much.
