How to grow lobelia from seeds in different ways

Lobelia is a very delicate plant with a flexible stem and small flowers. When thinking about how to grow lobelia from seeds, you should know that it is usually grown as an annual.

Of course, you can grow lobelia as a perennial, but then during the cold weather you need to bring the plants into the greenhouse.

Since lobelia grows very quickly, it is impractical to sow it before March, otherwise the seedlings will stretch out and may undergo Blackfoot disease.

How to grow lobelia from seeds

1. Sowing directly into the ground

A shallow container with drainage holes is filled with loose soil, moistened with a pink solution of potassium permanganate. After sowing, the soil is sprayed on top again, covering it with glass or cellophane.

It is better to water the plantings in a pallet, in order to avoid injury to the delicate stem and mold on the ground.

When the lobelia grows to 3 cm, the top is slightly trimmed (a few mm) to stimulate tillering. After the threat of spring frosts disappears, lobelia is planted in open ground or flowerpots. To stimulate a new wave of flowering in mid-summer, the bushes can be trimmed.

2. Pre-cultivation in peat tablets

Peat tablets are pre-poured with boiling water and, after cooling, are used for crops. You can use a damp toothpick or the damp tip of your index finger to spread small seeds over the surface of the tablet. After that, peat tablets in a suitable container are placed in an impromptu greenhouse (you can use a bread bin with a transparent lid) and the temperature is maintained at +23 degrees.
