Cultivation of Lemoine's mock-orange

Cultivation of Lemoine's mock-orange

You can propagate a chubushnik:

  1. Green cuttings.
  2. Shoots.
  3. By dividing the bush.
  4. Seeds (non-hybrid varieties).

To grow a chubushnik out of cuttings, cut young branches with formed leaves no more than half a meter long. To find out if the stalk is ready for rooting, it is wrapped around the finger, bending into a ring. It shouldn't break. Two year old cuttings can be used. They are cut in spring or autumn. Set the cuttings in wet sand or soil and wait for them to take root. A young bush can be divided into several. But to do this, you need to dig it out of the ground, and then, having cut it, put it back. It is better to carry out this operation in the fall. It's easier to dig up a shoot that has grown near a bush. You can prepare the layers in advance by tilting them to the ground and digging them with a layer of earth about 10 cm. After the roots appear on the layers, they can be transplanted to the desired place.

Propagating chubushnik seeds, immerse them in water for a couple of hours. Then they are placed in wet sawdust for two days. To prevent them from getting lost, wrap them in a loose cloth before soaking. The seeds will swell and germinate faster. They are quite small, so it is better to mix them with sand, and then sow them into the grooves made, which are covered with peat.
You can sow seeds in the fall in the snow. Prepare the grooves, sprinkle the seeds and sprinkle them with dry grass. In the spring, seedlings will appear at the sowing site.

Lemoine's chubushnik is a light-loving plant.

But it grows well and blooms in light partial shade. In the wilderness it blooms worse, besides, its branches are stretched out and the bush loses its compactness. Chubushnik grows on light fertile soils. But it can grow on any soil, except saline ones. Does not like stagnant moisture near the root system. Pits are prepared with a depth and width of at least 50 cm. If a group of plants is planted, the distance between them should be at least 1-1.5 m. A layer of drainage 15 cm high is laid on the bottom. Sand, crushed stone, and broken brick are used. A mixture of humus (2 hours), leafy earth (3 hours) and sand (1 hour) is prepared.

The root system is positioned so that the root collar sinks into the soil no more than 3 cm.If it gets deeper, it can rot. You can plant a mock-orange bush in early spring, autumn and winter. Most varieties are frost-resistant. Withstand lowering the temperature to -25 ° C.

Care and application

Care and application

It is easy to take care of the mock-orange. The soil around the bush is constantly loosened to remove weeds and cover moisture. Top mulch with a thick layer of peat or dry grass. In summer, the plant is periodically watered as needed.

An adult bush is cut off every 2-3 years.

Remove all excess stems near the base so that the bush becomes lighter. Remove old ugly branches. Instead of old stems, young ones will grow. Long main stems are not shortened so as not to get their unnatural growth, spoiling the appearance of the bush. In the fall, the bush is prepared for winter: watered, brought in mineral fertilizers, cut off the growth that has grown over the summer, loosen the soil around the bush and mulch her. In winter, the mock-orange does not require special care. It happens that sometimes the whips freeze slightly. In this case, they are cut off, giving the opportunity to grow new.

The main pests:

  1. Aphid
  2. Weevil
  3. Spider mite

Chubushnik Lemoine is planted singly or in groups with other plants: flowering shrubs, conifers of different heights, perennial flowers. It is usually placed near recreation areas so that its pleasant aroma is clearly heard. High varieties are planted in the background, near fences, near the walls of houses. They use Lemoine's chubushnik for landscaping and decorating streets, city parks, near shopping centers, offices, residential high-rise buildings. You can create a hedge from a high-grade Lemoine mock-orange. For this, the bushes are planted at a distance of 70 cm from each other.
