Growing grapes in Siberia

Growing grapes in Siberia is a reality. Grapes are a very unpretentious plant, it can grow on any land, except for wetlands and salt marshes. The best soil for grapes is black soil.

For grapes, you should choose a warm and sunny place in the garden, which is protected from the wind on all four sides. This can be the south side of the house, a fence, they serve as a heat accumulator, protection from the wind and a reflector of scattered light. To protect the plant from cold weather, it is necessary to prepare a trench. The depth of the trench should be 35-45 centimeters, the bottom width is 50 centimeters, the top width is about 80-85 centimeters, and the length is 5-7 meters. The sides are reinforced with thick-walled boards, which should protrude about 10 centimeters above the soil surface.

Water the grapes once a day. During flowering, the grapes are not watered. Water abundantly in dry season. Fertilization is necessary periodically. Organic fertilizers and ash are used for grapes. Top dressing and fertilizers are combined with watering.

For the winter, grapes must be covered. The remaining leaves must be removed from the vine. Leaves are laid in the trench, boards are laid on top to form a slope for water to drain. All this is covered with roofing material, polyethylene, then the edges of the covering material are folded around the boards, the edges of the material are sprinkled with earth. The ends should not be closed so that dampness does not accumulate, and at temperatures below zero, the ends are closed. On top of the shelter, you can put boards, branches, and other materials for snow retention.
