Shrub Tamarisk - a scattering of beads on a hillock

Shrub Tamariks with thin openwork shoots, graceful leaves and large inflorescences, on which pink, purple, sometimes white flowers bloom, photophilous, dry-resistant and resistant to dust, smoke, gases.

The fruit of the tamarix is in the form of a box, cracking into 3 or 5 valves. The tamarix shrub is undemanding to the soil, it can grow and bear fruit well on the poorest and salty soils.

Tamarix propagates by seeds, green and lignified cuttings, offspring. The transplant is easy to transfer, takes root quickly. Amenable to cutting and shaping.

Varietal tamariks, which are mainly of hybrid origin, are practically not present in the gardens of Russians, since there are few successful cultivation experiences. Most often, the reason is the lack of knowledge of the plant and, in part, the delicacy of the planting material imported from Europe. As a result, rare specimens survive in harsh winters.

What tamarisk definitely does not need is shade and excess moisture, even in natural conditions, he chooses open, dry places. The most suitable places for growing tamarix are steppes and forest-steppes. The latitude of Moscow is a risky zone for him, so you need to take care of a favorable location, the absence of excess moisture, and shelter for the winter.

The place should not be flooded during floods, and groundwater should go deep enough. Against drought, the tamarisk shrub is armed with a deeply penetrating root, fleshy leaves with a reserve of moisture. The most successful place is in the upper part of the slope, protected from the cold wind by buildings and a strip of vegetation that create impermeability, even stagnant air will not hurt.
