Cultivation of Arabis

Arabis is considered an unpretentious and very pretty plant. It is recommended mainly for growing in rocky gardens, but it does well in a regular flower garden.

For over 200 years, only two types of Arabis have been grown in the gardens - Alpine and Caucasian.

Arabis belongs to the perennials of the cruciferous family. Its creeping shoots take root very quickly, therefore Arabis grows without unnecessary problems, forming large clumps.

Arabis blooms for a short time: only 20-30 days, the beginning of flowering occurs in May.

The successful cultivation of arabis is impossible without the selection of the optimal earthen mixture. This plant prefers loose, non-acidic sandy, moist soils, with a low content of nutrients.

The place in the garden should be sunny, open. Excessively damp growing conditions can lead to rotting and death of plants, therefore good drainage is required.

Watering Arabis is necessary only on dry days. Cultivation of Arabis requires limiting its growth. Due to the rapid rooting, this plant is able to "hammer" the growth of neighboring plants in a short time, therefore its creeping shoots should be cut off.

In addition to saving nearby growing plants, the pruning procedure is beneficial for the Arabis itself, stimulating its more lush flowering next year.

The advantage of Arabis is the fact that it is resistant to diseases and pests.

This plant can be propagated by seeds. If you grow hybrid forms of arabis, then reproduction is done by dividing the bush and grafting.
