How to huddle potatoes

In order for the potato to produce a larger and larger crop, it must be properly looked after. It just seems like potatoes are a very simple and completely maintenance-free crop. But it is necessary to care for the potatoes and one of the important points just to increase the yield is the hilling of the potatoes.

In principle, in the question "How to spud potatoes?" there are no special secrets. It is enough just to sprinkle the base of the plant stem with loosened earth and the job is ready. And yet, in order for aeration of the soil and the development of tubers to be as effective as possible, it is necessary to adhere to a few simple rules.

Potatoes are huddled as the tops grow by 15-18 cm. Before you scoop up the ground at the base of the stem with hoes, it is advisable to feed the potatoes with organic and mineral fertilizers. As a rule, fertilizers are scattered or watered in the aisles, and during hilling they are already embedded under the bush. For liquid fertilizers, shallow furrows are made. In general, there are no difficulties, and all amateur gardeners cope with the task of how to spud potatoes without problems.

The main rule in hilling is the moment that it is necessary to carry out the procedure after rain or heavy dew. If the soil is too hot, then the result may be the opposite, sometimes even provoking the death of the plant. It is also necessary to spud potatoes on cloudy days or not during the hot solstice.

You can sprinkle potatoes several times during its growth. Sometimes the first hilling is done immediately after germination, and the sprouts will boldly break through the ground to the sun.

We always spud potatoes, but we do it only once, at the beginning of summer. In the future, we only weed it, fertilize it and water it. I will try this year, huddle several times and see if the harvest will increase.
