I plant cucumbers. What you need to know in advance

Cucumbers are almost our national vegetable (after potatoes, probably). It ripens one of the first and perfectly quenches thirst in the summer heat. Cucumbers are not only an excellent snack, but also remove toxins from the body, and are also used in cosmetology for facial skin care. Those who live outside the city or have a summer cottage there, most often grow cucumbers. It is not a very picky plant, although it needs some care. We will talk about what beginners in the cucumber business need to know in advance.

If you have a proven source of seedlings, you can buy ready-made sprouts. If you are afraid of getting into a mess by purchasing a "pig in a poke" on the market, then it is better to sow the seeds yourself. This must be done after soaking and germinating them, approximately in April, a month before planting in open ground, which should warm up properly.

Before planting, the soil for cucumbers is prepared as follows. In sufficiently deep and wide trenches, organic fertilizer mixed with soil is applied, and on top - a layer of clean soil, in which the seedlings will be planted.

Remember, the soil should not be acidic or waterlogged. The cucumber loves light and warmth, but on too hot days it needs to be watered (preferably in the evening), otherwise the fruits will taste bitter. You can create a living fence around the bed with two rows of corn to keep the cucumbers out of drafts while still allowing them access to sunlight.

If the plant already has 5-6 leaves, it will be useful to pinch its main stem. So the cucumber will develop better and the yield will be higher.

I looked - the soil for cucumbers was clean and black. And I use soil mulching. I mow the grass and scatter it over the beds. As a result, appearing at the dacha once every two weeks, sometimes I do without watering at all.

We have cucumbers growing in a greenhouse and have never had any problems with them. They bloom and bear fruit beautifully. Of the subtleties, only watering, since the land is good. And you need to buy quality seeds.
