White raspberries - features of care and cultivation

Probably, many gardeners, having heard the name "white raspberry", will think about some sort of raspberry we all know, bred by breeders.

However, white raspberries are a hybrid of blackberries and regular raspberries. And it should be noted right away that this plant is less resistant to frosty weather than simple raspberry bushes.

White raspberries can also be found under the name "yellow-fruited", since the color of its ripe berries is still not white, but yellowish. It is not worth giving over-ripening to the berries due to the fact that they tend to quickly crumble from the bush.

Caring for white raspberries is not much different from caring for its red "sister", but still some features should be considered in more detail.

  • In spring, under the bushes of white raspberries, it is necessary to add a potassium-based fertilizer. Wood ash or potassium sulfate, which rake into the loosened soil, are very suitable.
  • Raspberries require weekly watering only in the first year of their planting, the volume of water for each bush is one bucket. Further, watering can be reduced to 1 time per month. But after each watering, the ground around each raspberry bush must be loosened.
  • The first berries on the bushes of white raspberries begin to ripen in mid-July, and the last harvest for the season is harvested around mid-September.
  • Unlike red raspberries, the tops of white bushes do not need to be pruned.
  • In October, after the last watering, white raspberries should be fertilized with superphosphate, which is sprinkled with humus.
  • It is not necessary to specially cover the bushes of white raspberries for the winter. Also, this shrub does not require bending branches to the ground and tying them.
