Large-fruited tomatoes in our garden

This year, when planning the cultivation of crops, we decided to focus on large-fruited tomatoes. Among the varieties offered to us, we chose ready-made seedlings with a height of 20-30 cm of such varieties as "Bull's Heart" and "Pink Giant" (somewhere they met as Pink Gigella).

Bushes, consisting of 2-3 seeds, were planted in prepared holes fertilized with rotted mullein. The holes were created in a checkerboard pattern for free growth of tomato bushes, which grew up to 1.5 meters.

An important rule is not to forget to support the bushes, since heavy and numerous fruits pull the bush to the ground and the trunks often break under the weight. We prepared high pegs for each bush, to which we finally attached the trunks. For fastening, it is better to use wide tapes so as not to damage the joint. The largest and best fruits fell on the first and second growth phases - about 800-900 grams per tomato.

Large-fruited tomatoes love sufficient heat and light, so it is better to place them in open areas so that the plant does not fall into the direct rays of the midday hot sun. In strong heat, it is necessary to provide watering every 2-3 days. In moderate weather, once a week is enough.

This type of tomato stands out not only for its size (weight of fruits and growth of bushes), but also for its extraordinary taste, incomparable with ordinary low-growing tomatoes. Among large-fruited tomatoes, the following varieties are especially popular: Eagle's beak, Pride of Siberia, Pink honey, Sevryuga, Siberian trump card, Great warrior, Ace, Lev, Tyutchevsky, Spartak and others.
