Red elderberry Plumosa Aurea

Elderberry Plumosa Aurea is a beautiful, lush, deciduous shrub with bright colors and ruby fruits that will adorn any garden. Elderberry bushes grow quickly enough, and for many years they delight gardeners. It is believed that where the elderberry grows, field mice are not found, and there are significantly fewer harmful insects, which is also a convincing argument in favor of planting this plant on the site.

The shape of the elderberry bush is round, up to 5 meters high, up to 4 meters in diameter. The plant begins to bloom in the month of May, releasing flowers in the form of yellow-green brushes, flowering lasts 2-3 weeks, after which inedible drupes appear, which ripen by mid-summer, acquiring a bright red color. Elderberry leaves are multi-sawn, complex, golden-yellow in color, in a shaded area - green.

Red elderberry is not demanding on the soil, but it does not tolerate high lime content, grows well both in the sun and in partial shade, regular watering is desirable in summer. Hardy, does not require special preparation and shelter for the winter.

Due to the rapid growth, all elderberry varieties require periodic pruning, and after 5-6 years the trunks are cut to the base, young shoots will appear very quickly and give a dense bush. In horticulture, the red elderberry is used as an ornamental plant, in contrast to the black elderberry, which in some countries is grown commercially and used in food production.

The shrub propagates by lignified cuttings, which are planted in open ground in the fall.
