Sweet pepper we used to call Bulgarian, but in fact he arrived in Europe from Mexico and Guatemala thanks to the ship's doctor Christopher Columbus, who drew attention to the native red salt. More than six thousand years ago, the ancient Aztecs added spices to their food from crushed pods of hot red pepper dried in the sun.
As an expensive exotic gift to the Spanish king, Columbus presented a bag of caustic Indian red salt. Pepper came to the territory of Russia from Turkey, so it was called Turkish for a long time. And it became sweet as a result of five hundred years of work of European breeders, who turned the burning bitterness into a juicy sweetness.
Better to be late than rush
Low temperatures are destructive for pepper, even slightly frozen plants can be safely discarded. Making the right decision on the timing of planting pepper in open ground, you need to be guided by this rule: better a little later plant seedlings, when the threat of frost has passed, than hurry up and ruin the entire future harvest.
As a safety net, you can build wire arcs over the beds of pepper to quickly pull the film over them if necessary. Later, a new problem will come - too active sun, even well-seasoned pepper seedlings can burn. He does not like peppers and drafts, so it is advisable to make the beds protected from blowing by the wind.
Where and when to start
In general, full-fledged cultivation of pepper seedlings takes up to two and a half months, which is why we start seasonal sowing of vegetables with pepper. It is better to sow with a surface method, lightly sprinkling the seeds with earth. You can spread them out on a ten-centimeter layer of snow, then they will smoothly enter the soil along with the melting snow. This method is also good because the seeds are sold too dry, which reduces their weight, but requires additional moisture.
How and where to plant
All plants are very sensitive to moisture, pepper is no exception, reacting even to a slight drying out of the soil. But having properly planted the plant in open ground, you need to refrain from watering for a couple of weeks so that the root system is strengthened. Its condition is monitored by observing the top of the plant: if the greens are light, you should refrain from watering, and if it has darkened, then you should slightly moisten the soil.
Plants with the already formed first flower bud are transferred to the ground. It is advisable not to damage the clod of earth by removing it for planting. To protect the bushes from the bear, when planting them in open ground, it is recommended to pour wood ash or slightly crushed eggshell into the hole.
When planting sweet peppers for the first time, you should consider on the soil of which predecessors to plant it. The soil is ideal after cabbage, pumpkin seeds, legumes and all kinds of root vegetables. As a rule, peppers are planted in open ground with ready-made seedlings.

Wells for planting sweet peppers are made according to the scheme 70x30-45 cm (depending on varieties). The depth should correspond to the depth of the container in which the seedlings grew, a deviation of 1-1.5 cm is permissible. Before planting, the hole must be shed well, and after planting, cover the soil with peat so that moisture does not evaporate. For planting a plant, it is better to use the evening time of the day, or cloudy days, so that the seedlings take on well and the plant goes into active growth.
Plant care
Peppers like to get enough water, especially on dry, hot days. Remember - during watering, do not touch the leaves and fruits, try to water directly under the root. After this process, it is necessary to loosen the soil a little and gently without damaging the roots that are not so deep.
Do not forget also about feeding: the first should be carried out in 10-15 days, the second is already carried out 10-15 days after the first ovaries appear.
