Growing craspedia in the garden

Craspedia is not yet so widespread even among collectors, since it was exported from its homeland - Australia - only in the early 80s of the last century. Maybe that's why the cultivation of craspedia seems to be a laborious occupation for many.

However, in general, the plant is quite unpretentious, so there are no problems with growing. The low prevalence is just a result of the fact that craspedia is still in the category of new products. Seeds can often be purchased at gardening stores, where the two names "Drumsticks - Craspedia" are sometimes indicated on the bags.

Most often, the cultivation of craspedia is carried out through seedlings, since in the open field it is rather difficult for small seeds to germinate.

Craspedia seeds are sown in March using boxes with moist soil, without sprinkling with earth. The box is covered with a sheet of glass or foil. Previously, there is simply no point in sowing, since the flowering of craspedia depends on the duration of daylight hours: this dried flower blooms in August-September. When the inflorescences are fully blooming, they are cut, and, tying 15-20 stems, they are hung upside down to dry in a place where there is no direct sunlight.

Most often, craspedia is used in dry bouquets. When dry, the flowers keep their shape perfectly, retaining enviable strength. They do not break even if you tap the inflorescences on a hard surface. It is for this that they got their second name - "drumsticks". Craspedia looks quite exotic in "live" bouquets. For storage, fresh water is required, a temperature of about 2 heat (refrigerator compartment) and careful handling of the inflorescence.

A very interesting and beautiful and unusual plant. Probably, it would look very nice with purple decorative bow balls.
