Buffet grapes - description
Buffet grapes deserve special attention. It was bred by the Ukrainian breeder Zagorulko V.V., crossing two varieties Gift Zaporozhye and Kuban. The resulting variety ripens early, with a ripening period of 115 to 125 days. Already in the second half of August, you can start picking magnificent berries with unique taste.
For buffet grapes, powerful vigorous bushes are characteristic, which form shoots well. Up to 14 new shoots grow per 1 meter of occupied area. By the end of the growing season, the shoots ripen completely.
The fruits of this variety are large cylindro-conical clusters of medium density. Their weight is usually 600-800 grams. The berries are oval-shaped, dark blue, covered with a thin layer of waxy coating. The taste of the berry itself is quite pleasant, with a slight aftertaste. mulberry or under-dried raisins.
Features of buffet grapes
When growing buffet grapes on your site, it is worth remembering some of its features. When planting, the bushes are placed at a distance of 3 meters from each other.
Experienced growers know that for these grapes it is better to use a standard fan forging with pruning 5-8 eyes, leaving 40-50 eyes. After the debris, there should be 25-30 shoots per bush.
A huge advantage of this grape variety is its frost resistance... It can withstand temperatures as low as -22 degrees. In some regions of the country, there are such frosts in winter that it is very difficult for any grape variety to survive.
In addition, buffet grapes are often grown not only for themselves, but also for sale. Due to the fact that the berries are dense and covered with a thin layer of wax coating, it perfectly tolerates transportation.
Before you start growing buffet grapes, you need to decide on the place of it landing... It must necessarily be a sunny area with a good irrigation and feeding system. It is also necessary to prepare material for support in advance.
For good development and ripening of the vine, as well as for obtaining a high-quality bountiful harvest, timely care of the grape bushes is necessary.
Buffet grape care
With the onset of warm weather, the vital activity of the root system of the grape bush is activated. The roots strongly absorb water from the soil and supply it to the wood. If the wood is damaged, then the incoming water will flow out through these wounds.This process is called “crying” by the growers. By itself, it will stop only with the growth of shoots.
The liquid that runs down the vine can damage the eyes, so it is important to be able to prevent “crying”. Experienced gardeners are advised to prune the bushes before the onset of warm weather and sap flow. In this case, the sections must be made oblique with an inclination from the opposite side of the eye.
An important step in the care is the vines katarovka and the cleaning of the old bark. Katarovka is the removal of roots on an underground trunk close to the soil. The bark is cleaned gently with hands or an iron brush so as not to damage the wood.
Like any other plant, buffet grapes need proper watering and feeding. Before opening the bushes in the spring, it is imperative to apply mineral fertilizers. It can be 200 grams of superphosphate and 100 grams of ammonium sulfate.
Superphosphate is necessary for the formation of inflorescences in the buds, ripening of berries and the accumulation of sugar in them. Ammonium sulfate contributes to better growth and increased productivity of the bush.
When applying fertilizers, it should be borne in mind that if manure was introduced in the fall, then top dressing mineral fertilizers do not do in the spring. In addition to mineral fertilizers, it is advisable to feed grape bushes with organic fertilizers.
As an organo-mineral fertilizer, a mixture of 200 grams of superphosphate, 100 grams of ammonium sulfate and 700 grams of rotted manure or plant compost per bush is perfect.
After applying mineral fertilizers, the soil should be well watered. The soil must be saturated to the depth of the root system. Watered vineyard soil must be kept loose in order to retain moisture longer.
